Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, asserted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu lacks the capability to alter Nigeria’s economic trajectory. Suswam articulated this viewpoint during an interview on Channels Television.
He contended that the Tinubu-led government is incapable of steering the nation away from the economic challenges initiated by his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Suswam expressed, “It’s regrettable, starting from the Buhari Government, where the mantra of ‘Change’ became ubiquitous. Sadly, there was a lack of scrutiny regarding the nature of change being introduced into governance. Was it a positive or negative change?”
He elucidated on the consequences of the preceding eight years, indicating a detrimental impact that continues to resonate. “The policies implemented during those years have contributed significantly to our present circumstances. The foundational structures established by the PDP were systematically dismantled by the Buhari administration.”
“Our trajectory veered towards uncertainty, and the current economic landscape is dire. Regrettably, the current leadership under Tinubu lacks the requisite competence to revitalize our economic prospects,” Suswam emphasized.
He pointed to measures such as the removal of petrol subsidies, currency devaluation, and hikes in electricity tariffs as indicators of the government’s exacerbating stance towards the plight of Nigerian citizens.
