Muhammad Shehu Dalinja, the Commissioner of Police for Zamfara State, has confirmed the deaths of five police officers and two soldiers who were killed in an ambush by bandits in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The bandits targeted the security operatives along the Gusau-Funtua road on Thursday, blocking the highway.
The police and soldiers were responding to an attack on a construction company when the ambush occurred.
Dalinja reported that the bandits intended to attack the Setraco Construction Company to kidnap its staff. Despite the deployment of joint security forces to the scene, the bandits had set up an ambush.
A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of several security personnel.
“The bandits’ goal was to infiltrate the premises of Setraco Construction Company,” Dalinja explained. “Our operatives were deployed promptly, but the bandits had already laid an ambush. The ensuing gunfight led to the tragic loss of our personnel.”
