Zamfara Gov, Dauda Lawal dumps PDP for APC
In a major political development, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement came on Monday at the Government House in Gusau, delivered by Deputy Governor Malam Mani Mummuni, who stood in for the governor.
Mummuni explained that the decision followed thorough consultations with influential political figures across Zamfara.
“The move was endorsed during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rescue Hall, Government House, Gusau, after a broad engagement initiated by the governor to assess the political situation in the state,” he said.
He added that the defection was necessitated by the escalating internal crises within the PDP and the urgent need to foster unity to tackle Zamfara’s security and development issues.
“The stakeholders advised the governor to align with the ruling party’s Renewed Hope agenda in the interest of stability, progress, and overall development of the state and the country,” Mummuni stated.
The deputy governor further called on party supporters and other political actors across Zamfara to register with the APC through its newly launched e-registration platform, designed to broaden the party’s membership base.
Mummuni assured that the move underscores Governor Lawal’s commitment to promoting unity, stability, and accelerated development for the people of Zamfara.
This announcement ends weeks of speculation regarding the governor’s political future, a discourse that intensified following the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the PDP convention in Oyo State on Monday.
