On Thursday, a number of prominent Nigerians gathered in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to attend the burial of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s stepmother, Hajia Hausa Abba Kormi.
Dignitaries present at the funeral included Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and a delegation from the Presidency led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. The funeral prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Borno, Laisu Ibrahim Ahmad.
Hajia Hauwa Kormi, aged 69, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness, leaving behind five children, numerous stepchildren, and grandchildren.
The burial ceremony also saw the attendance of Senators representing Borno Central, namely Barrister Kaka Shehu (APC – Borno North) and Barrister Mohammed Tahir Monguno. Members of the House of Representatives, as well as representatives from the Borno State House Assembly led by the speaker, Abdulkarim Lawan, were also in attendance.
Other notable figures present included the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Goni Alkali, and various members of the Borno State Executive Council, among other officials.
