The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, following his voluntary appearance at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bello’s detention to journalists, stating that the former governor was taken into custody by the Commission’s Chief Security Officer (CSO).

“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,” Oyewale disclosed, according to reports from Daily Post.

Bello is currently undergoing interrogation by EFCC operatives regarding allegations of financial misconduct.

Earlier on Tuesday, the former governor arrived at the EFCC office in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by his legal team. His appearance was in response to charges brought against him by the anti-graft agency.

Bello faces a 16-count charge filed by the federal government at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The allegations include a criminal breach of trust involving a sum of ₦110.4 billion.

This case has drawn significant attention, intensifying scrutiny of Bello’s financial dealings during his tenure as governor of Kogi State.
