Chelsea has confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton for an undisclosed fee. The Blues beat Premier League rivals Manchester City to signing of the Spanish defender.

Cucurella who was voted as the best player for Brighton last season will face a stiff competition from English defender Ben Chilwell for the starting XI spot for the left back position next season.

The young left back signed a six years contract with the Blues and will hope to break into the starting XI of Thomas Tuchel come next season.

The former Barcelona defender will wear jersey number 32 next season. He previously don the number 3 jersey at Brighton last season.

Chelsea released an official statement on their website to confirm the signing of Cucurella from Brighton on Friday afternoon.

“Marc Cucurella has signed for Chelsea on a six-year contract from Brighton & Hove Albion. The versatile defender arrives just weeks after his 24th birthday following an impressive debut season in the Premier League with the Seagulls, during which time he made 38 appearances in all competitions and scored his only goal in their penultimate home game against Manchester United.”
