18-year-old housewife arrested in Kano for allegedly killing husband
The Kano State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old housewife, Saidat Jibril, over the alleged murder of her 30-year-old husband, Salisu Idris, following a violent domestic altercation in the early hours of Monday, May 6, 2025.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred around 12:35 a.m. at the couple’s residence in Farawa Quarters, Kano.
“The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a culpable homicide case,” the statement confirmed.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered a team of detectives to the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Preliminary investigations suggest that during the altercation, Saidat allegedly used a sharp knife to slit her husband’s throat.
She is currently in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), under the Homicide Section, and is expected to face charges of culpable homicide.
Commissioner Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to justice, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on violence and criminal behavior. He assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that justice will be pursued without compromise.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station or through the Command’s emergency contact numbers.
