2019: We are proud of you – Benue Youths hail Ortom over defection to PDP
Benue Youth Alliance For Ortom (BYAFO2019), has described the defection of the state governor, Samuel Ortom, from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a welcome development.
The youth group said it was proud of the governor for ditching the APC, a political party it claimed lacks respect for lives and property of the people of the state.
BYAFO2019 was reacting to the Wednesday’s defection of the governor to the PDP after he had earlier announced that the ruling party had issued him a red card.
In a statement by its leader, Iorliam Shija, the pro-Ortom group said the governor’s action was a clear indication that he represents the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.
According to Shija, Benue Youth Alliance For Ortom 2019 is proud of the actions by Governor Samuel Ortom for yielding to the voice of his people by defecting from All Progressives Congress (APC) that has showed lack of respect for lives and property of the people of the state.
“The governor’s action indicates that he represents the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.”
The group has accused the APC-controlled Federal Government of failure to defend the lives and property of the people of the state, a situation they say inform their decision to support Governor Ortom for distancing himself from the party.
“Benue youth are no longer concerned with partisan party politics, we are interested in issues that would direct and secure the future of the Benue people. We therefore call on Ortom not to look back as we are with him.
“Issues that necessitated the Governor’s action are pro-people and BYAFO2019 is proud to have him as the Governor and his determination to lead the Nigeria’s Food Basket State from its current situation.
“BYAFO therefore, call for support from well meaning people of the state to support the governor in his drive for good governance and a secured future.”
DAILY POST reports earlier that some youths had blocked the governor’s convoy, thus precluding him from going to Abuja for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and leadership of the ruling party for a meeting.
