2023: APC set to lose Benue after fielding Tiv-Tiv candidates

There are clear indications that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may lose Benue State in the 2023 governorship election in the state.

This follows the failure of the party to produce its deputy governorship candidate from Benue South Senatorial District.

IDOMA VOICE reports that Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, who is the party’s guber standard bearer, was expected to pick his running mate from Benue South since he’s from the Tiv speaking part of the state.

Alia had emerged flag bearer in the controversial guber primary election of the APC that was conducted some months ago.

Following the inability of the party’s stakeholders from Zone C to produce a running mate to Alia, the party decided to submit the name of Shima Vembeh as a placeholder, pending when the zone will produce the running mate.

However, IDOMA VOICE, recalls that after months of deliberations and argument, the Benue South leaders could not produce a running mate before INEC’s deadline, thereby making it difficult for them to submit the name.

The name of a former minister was said to have been submitted to the electoral body, but it was rejected outrightly.

With the development, APC will now fly an all-Tiv ticket in 2023, first time in the history of Benue.

The development has angered many natives of Idoma, especially the youths who have vowed to work against the APC in 2023.
