Chiamaka Nnadozie was named Player of the Match after helping Nigeria’s Super Falcons to a 0-0 draw against Canada in their 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup Group B opening game.

Nnadozie, who donned the captain’s armband for the match against the Olympic champions, displayed an outstanding performance at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

The talented shot-stopper made a crucial save when she denied veteran forward, Christine Sinclair, from the penalty spot just five minutes into the second half, preserving the clean sheet for Nigeria.

Throughout the keenly contested encounter, Nnadozie continued to make important saves, frustrating the Canadian attack with her goalkeeping prowess.

Despite finishing the game with only 10 players after Deborah Abiodun received a red card in regulation time, the Super Falcons’ resilience, led by Nnadozie’s heroics, ensured they held Canada to a goalless draw.

Randy Waldrum’s side will now prepare to face Australia at the Brisbane Stadium on Thursday, July 27, in what promises to be another exciting clash in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
