2027 election: Who takes Enone? Fierce battle for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency begins
The race for the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, popularly known as Enone, is gathering momentum once again. With the 2027 general elections inching closer, old rivalries are being rekindled, new alliances are forming, and political gladiators are sharpening their strategies for what many already describe as a defining contest for the soul of the constituency.
IDOMA VOICE reports that at the heart of the unfolding drama is the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Philip Agbese, who is said to be eyeing a second term in the Green Chamber. Agbese, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has continued to enjoy widespread commendation for his energetic representation, community outreach, and legislative activism — traits that have earned him respect both within Enone and across Benue South.
Yet, in true Enone fashion, the quest for representation is never without its controversies. In some quarters, particularly in Okpokwu Local Government Area, agitations are growing louder that it is their turn to produce the next representative. Proponents of this view argue that equity demands a rotation of power among the three local governments that make up the constituency.
However, many others maintain that performance should trump zoning, insisting that Agbese’s record of service, visible projects, and consistent engagement with the grassroots justify his continuation.
“When a man is doing well, you don’t change him midstream,” one supporter remarked, echoing the sentiment of those who believe the incumbent should be allowed to “continue paddling the ship.”
Meanwhile, the people of Owukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area have also entered the fray, insisting that it is their turn to produce the next House of Representatives member. With their numerical strength and political influence, the Owukpa bloc believes it has both the right and the reach to tilt the contest in its favour.
Among the array of aspirants said to be preparing for the race are Aida Nath Ogwuche of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who narrowly lost to Agbese in 2023; Hon. Anthony Agom, the current Okpokwu State Assembly member who recently defected to the APC; as well as Adaje Ejembi, Isaac Urama, Oguwche Agada, and Fred Abochi, a former councillor with deep grassroots connections.
Hon. Philip Agbese (Incumbent, APC)
At the centre of the Enone political contest stands the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Philip Agbese, a man whose name has become synonymous with visibility, activism, and engagement. Since assuming office, Agbese has built a reputation as an energetic legislator, known for his bold interventions in national discourse and a strong grassroots presence across the three local governments. His initiatives in youth empowerment, education, and infrastructure have earned him both applause and admiration.
However, his biggest challenge may not come from performance but from the politics of zoning. Many in Okpokwu argue that Ado, Agbese’s home base, has had its fair share of the Enone mandate and should allow power to shift. Yet his supporters insist that his accomplishments justify continuity — echoing the popular refrain: “You don’t change a winning team mid-match.” For Agbese, the 2027 race will test whether performance can indeed override zoning sentiment.
Aida Nath Ogwuche (PDP)
A familiar face in the Enone political space, Aida Nath Ogwuche of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains one of the most formidable challengers. She came close to victory in 2023, narrowly losing to Agbese, and has since maintained an active presence in the constituency. Known for her eloquence, intellect, and passion for women and youth inclusion, Aida commands respect, particularly among PDP loyalists and the Otukpa bloc.
Her challenge, however, lies in the zoning arithmetic. Many argue that Otukpa has already taken its turn, with Hon. Hassan Saleh previously representing Enone for eight years. Still, Aida’s strong political connections and the backing of an influential figure within the PDP hierarchy could make her a serious contender once again, especially if the party structure tilts in her favour.
Hon. Anthony Agom (APC, Okpokwu)
Hon. Anthony Agom, the current Okpokwu State Assembly member, is another name gaining attention. Recently defecting to the APC, Agom is believed to be strategically positioning himself to challenge from within. His time in the Benue State House of Assembly has earned him experience in legislative processes, while his grassroots network in Okpokwu gives him a natural advantage among local voters.
Nonetheless, Agom faces the uphill task of navigating party dynamics in an environment where loyalty and timing can make or mar a political ambition. His move to the APC has sparked mixed reactions, but his calm confidence and quiet mobilisation suggest that he is in the race to make a strong statement — if not to win outrightly, then to shape the political balance of 2027.
Hon. Okoriko Abah (APC, Okpokwu)
Though less visible in public discourse, Hon. Okoriko Abah is increasingly being mentioned as the dark horse of the race. A financial expert and philanthropist with a long career in the insurance sector, Abah is known for his calm, calculated demeanour and a reputation for silent impact. His philanthropic initiatives in education and community development have quietly endeared him to many in Okpokwu and beyond.
Observers describe him as “the silent force that may surprise everyone.” While he may not command the same political fanfare as other aspirants, his background, discipline, and technocratic appeal could resonate with voters seeking a fresh, competent voice in the Green Chamber.
Hon. Inalegwu Ejembi Adaje: A New Dawn for Enone Representation
The tides of change are rising across Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadigbo Federal Constituency, and at the centre of this renewed hope stands Hon. Inalegwu Ejembi Adaje, a voice of integrity, vision, and people-driven leadership.
His readiness to serve is built on years of dedication to community progress, youth empowerment, and responsive governance. As Enone prepares for 2027, Adaje’s movement represents more than politics. It’s a call to rebuild trust and restore pride in true representation.
The future is bright for Enone. The time is now. Support Hon. Inalegwu Ejembi Adaje for effective representation and responsible leadership.
The Owukpa Bloc: Isaac Urama, Fred Apochi & Ogwuche Agada
From Owukpa in Ogbadibo LGA, several aspirants — including Isaac Urama, Fred Apochi, a former councillor for Ehaje Ward II, and Ogwuche ‘Guchi’ Agada — are jointly advocating for a power shift. They argue that Owukpa has long been politically sidelined and deserves a shot at representation. Collectively, they represent the sentiment of a region that sees 2027 as a chance to balance history and reward loyalty.
While none of the aspirants from Owukpa has yet emerged as a consensus figure, their insistence on equity keeps the debate alive. If they can unite behind one strong candidate, the Owukpa bloc could alter the political equation and force the front-runners to rethink their strategies.
Each contender brings a distinct blend of ambition, experience, and local strategy to the 2027 Enone contest. But as the political temperature rises, one question towers above all: Will zoning, sentiment, or performance determine who represents Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo in the next House of Representatives?
