At least 30 passengers were burnt to death in a fatal auto crash in Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State on Saturday.

The accident occurred when two commercial buses collided head-on and caught fire at the Onipetesi axis along the Ore/Lagos Expressway.

Out of the 32 passengers involved, 28 were burnt beyond recognition, while two others, rescued with serious injuries, died before reaching the hospital. Two survivors remain hospitalized.

Sources attributed the crash to excessive speeding. The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed that a preliminary investigation indicated one of the vehicles was driving against traffic.

Ibitoye urged drivers to avoid reckless driving and maintain their vehicles properly. He also encouraged passengers to speak out against unsafe driving, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
