MTN Nigeria assures restoration after technical glitch erases borrowed airtime

A technical issue within MTN Nigeria’s system temporarily erased the debts of subscribers who had previously borrowed airtime from the company.

The glitch seemingly occurred early Saturday, leaving customers both puzzled and delighted. Upon checking their accounts, they found that the borrowed funds had vanished, rendering their balances at zero.

In response, the telecom giant acknowledged the situation in a statement shared with TheCabe on Saturday. MTN confirmed that a system glitch affected balance inquiries, causing some customers to receive error messages indicating zero balances. However, the company assured customers that their balances would be fully restored once their engineers resolved the issue.

“MTN Nigeria Communications Plc acknowledges a system glitch impacting balance inquiries. Some customers may receive error messages indicating cleared balances, which is not the case. All balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved. Our engineers are actively working on this. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

This occurrence sparked varied reactions among subscribers, flooding social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter). Many customers expressed excitement, believing the telecom provider had intentionally forgiven their outstanding debts.
