The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 198 individuals involved in drug-related offenses and shut down 21 illegal drug establishments in Kano.

The agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, conveyed this information in a statement to the press on Tuesday in Kano. The arrests took place between January 17 and January 26 as part of the ongoing “Operation Hana Maye” (Operation Stop Drug Abuse), initiated by the State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the region.

Out of the 198 suspects taken into custody, 177 were male, and 21 were female. The statement revealed that 61 individuals were apprehended in a club converted into an illicit drug joint, while 42 suspects were caught at Dan Agundi graveyard. Additionally, 21 drug joints, including Sheka graveyard and Sheka Obajana, were dismantled to create a safer environment and discourage drug-related activities in the state.

The NDLEA successfully recovered various illicit substances during the operation, such as Exol five rubber solution, suck and die, cannabis, and other dangerous substances. The spokesperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to drug abuse and trafficking to the relevant authorities.
