EFCC operative slumps, dies in Lagos
An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Remedy Yange, from Benue State, has been found dead on a street in Lagos.
A viral video on social media shows Yange’s lifeless body lying by the roadside as passersby attempt to identify him. His identity and place of work were confirmed through his ID card, which was found in a bag beside his body.
Yange, who was reportedly on leave to spend time with his family in Lagos, tragically met his untimely death under unclear circumstances.
The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to uncover the cause of Yange’s death.
This incident marks the second reported death of an EFCC operative in recent weeks. On January 19, the agency reported that Aminu Salisu, an assistant superintendent officer, was killed during an operation in Anambra State.
Salisu was allegedly killed by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Ikechukwu. According to the EFCC, the suspect had refused investigators entry into his home, which was monitored via CCTV cameras, before the fatal encounter.
The EFCC noted that Ikechukwu was involved in suspicious online activities, including coding and questionable online medical supplies.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing as the agency continues to mourn the loss of its officers.
