Governor Alia thanks President Tinubu for solidarity visit to Benue
The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on behalf of the people of the state, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for visiting Benue following the recent tragic events, particularly the massacre in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area.
He said the President’s presence and support during this challenging period “provides the people with hope and strength.”
Governor Alia appreciated the President’s commitment to working with the state government to develop a lasting peace framework, and for his clear directives to security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the killings are arrested and brought to justice.
“We deeply appreciate your commitment to addressing the security challenges we face, particularly your directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police.
Your decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration,” the Governor stated.
He also extended his appreciation to his fellow governors, particularly the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, for standing in solidarity with him and the people of Benue.
“Their collective efforts demonstrate a united front against violence, and a shared commitment to the well-being of communities across the country,” he said.
Governor Alia noted that the people of Benue “take so much solace in the leadership and compassion shown by the President, State Governors and other well-meaning Nigerians during this trying moment.”
He assured the people of the state that his administration will continue to engage all critical stakeholders in the effort to rebuild communities and restore peace across Benue.
“We will continue to work together with all the critical stakeholders, as our government works towards rebuilding and restoring peace in the State,” he added.
