Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Police Station in Lagos, has died.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed her passing in a statement issued on Saturday. According to Adebisi, Ngbaronye died on Friday, October 24, 2025, after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Describing the late officer as “a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity,” Adebisi said Ngbaronye was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty.

“Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement read.

Adebisi, however, did not disclose the nature of the illness that led to the surgery.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has personally reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and her elder brother, who is a priest, to convey the Command’s condolences and offer support during this difficult time.

Details of her burial arrangements will be announced later.
