Man allegedly hacks mother to death with machete in Abia

A man identified as Livingston Nwakanma has allegedly killed his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, with a machete in Osaa Ukwu community, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday when the woman, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, was in her kitchen preparing to cook.

According to the account, Livingston entered the kitchen and attacked his mother with a machete, killing her instantly before fleeing from the house.

Youths in the community later tracked down and arrested the suspect.

The deceased was said to be a well known trader in the community’s local market. Her death reportedly sparked mourning and anger among residents.

Her husband, Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the incident and described the killing as devastating, saying his wife was murdered in cold blood.

He also said their son had displayed signs of mental instability for about four years. The family reportedly believed the suspect was also battling drug addiction.

The Abia State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident at the time of filing this report.
