Veteran Nollywood actor, Baba Gebu dies after brief illness
Veteran Nigerian actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, widely known as Baba Gebu, has passed away, the news was confirmed by Nollywood actor and producer Kunle Afod on his verified Instagram page on Wednesday.
In an emotional post, Afod revealed that the beloved actor died on Tuesday following a short illness, describing him as a “great legend” who succumbed to an undisclosed ailment.
“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace,” Afod wrote.
Baba Gebu enjoyed a long and illustrious career in Nigerian cinema, particularly in Yoruba-language films, where he featured in numerous acclaimed productions and mentored many emerging actors.
In 2024, the actor spoke publicly about the death of his wife, noting that returning to acting helped him navigate his grief and avoid depression. During that challenging period, colleagues—including Afod—offered both emotional and professional support, helping him continue his contributions to the film industry.
