The paramount ruler of the Bassa-Nge nation in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Brigadier General Abu Ali (Rtd), has passed away. The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Kakaki of Bassa-Nge nation, Chief Jacob Eddi, and released to newsmen in Lokoja on Monday.

According to the statement, the revered traditional ruler died early Monday morning from complications related to old age. He had been receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Lokoja, where his health reportedly deteriorated in recent days.

Following his death, his remains were moved to Gboloko, his ancestral home in Bassa Local Government Area, ahead of traditional burial rites. Tributes have since poured in from across the country.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, wrote on Facebook:

“We just lost His Majestic King, Alhaji Abu Ali, the Etsu of Bassa-Nge Kingdom. May your soul rest in Jannatul Firdaus.”

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, also paid tribute to the late traditional ruler, describing him as a dignified leader renowned for humility, integrity, and outstanding service to the military. In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed recalled General Abu Ali’s tenure as Military Administrator of Bauchi State from September 1990 to January 1992 under the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.

“His tenure was marked by remarkable developmental initiatives and commitment to the welfare of our people. Under his administration, the Bauchi Township Water Project was commissioned, bringing vital water infrastructure to residents of the state capital,” the governor said.
