Why I dumped PDP – Gov Adeleke opens up

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming unresolved leadership disputes at the national level of the party.

Adeleke announced his departure in a post on his Instagram page late Monday, disclosing that he had already submitted his resignation letter to his ward executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2 of Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.

In his statement, he said:

“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.”

He expressed appreciation to PDP members and supporters who supported his political journey, noting:

“I thank the party, its numerous members and supporters for the opportunities it has afforded me — first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor of Osun State.”

Adeleke’s exit did not come as a surprise to political observers. There had been growing speculation that the governor might not contest the 2026 governorship election on the PDP platform unless the party’s lingering internal crisis was resolved.

The Osun PDP leadership had earlier expressed optimism that reconciliation efforts—once acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—could convince him to remain in the party ahead of the election.

With his formal resignation now public, the political landscape in Osun is expected to witness significant realignments in the coming months as the battle for the state’s 2026 governorship ticket intensifies.
