Armed bandits on Sunday, December 14, 2025, launched a deadly attack on the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting several worshippers.

The victim, identified only as Jayjay, was reportedly killed during the early‑morning assault. Security operatives and local authorities are still working to determine the exact number of worshippers kidnapped, with official figures yet to be confirmed.

The attack has stirred fear among residents of Okun land, where incidents targeting churches have become increasingly frequent.

This is the second reported church attack in the area in recent weeks. On November 30, 2025, suspected bandits stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, abducting the cleric, Orlando, along with other worshippers during a service.

In that incident, the kidnappers initially demanded a ₦500 million ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, and gave victims’ families a two‑day ultimatum, threatening unspecified “consequences” if the ransom was not paid.

Residents also recalled that Ayetoro Kiri community was attacked about three weeks ago when armed men targeted a local school. Vigilantes reportedly repelled the assailants during that incident, preventing casualties and abductions.

The latest attack underscores growing insecurity in Kogi State, particularly in Okun land, as authorities continue efforts to secure vulnerable communities.
