BREAKING: Court sends ex-AGF under Buhari, Abubakar Malami to Kuje Prison

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

Malami is to remain in custody until January 2, 2026, when his written bail application will be heard by the court.

Earlier on Tuesday, Malami’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, had requested oral bail, but Justice Nwite rejected the plea. The judge held that granting bail without giving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the opportunity to respond would amount to an ambush against the prosecuting agency.

Justice Nwite emphasized that since a formal written bail application has been filed, it is in the interest of justice to allow the EFCC to respond as mandated by law.

Further updates on the case will follow.
