A tragic incident has occurred in Rivers State where a man identified as Alachi allegedly killed his wife, a mother of two, following a minor disagreement.

The incident happened on Thursday at Amaji Village in Umuoyoro Community, Omuma Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that the couple had gone to work on their farm when a misunderstanding ensued between them.

According to a community source who spoke on condition of anonymity, what began as a simple quarrel escalated violently. The source alleged that during the altercation, the suspect used a kitchen knife to slit his wife’s throat.

The woman’s cries reportedly drew the attention of nearby villagers, who rushed to the farmland.

They subdued the suspect and prevented him from fleeing before handing him over to authorities. The shocking development left residents of the community in grief and disbelief.

The suspect was subsequently transferred to the Eberi Police Division, which oversees the area.

A security source disclosed that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly claimed he was not in control of himself at the time of the attack.

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She stated:

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. The suspect has been arrested, and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a detailed investigation into the matter to ensure timely justice.”

Reacting to the development, human rights activist Prince Wiro condemned the act, describing it as a disturbing example of cruelty.

The National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights and Accountability Campaign maintained that there can be no excuse for such violence and urged the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice for the deceased.
