The Labour Party (LP) is gaining momentum in Benue State following a wave of high-profile defections from other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This surge comes after Hon. Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives and member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, formally defected from the APC to the Labour Party.

Sources told DAILY POST that Agbese’s defection was prompted by internal crises within the APC in the state. He is reported to have brought along a large bloc of supporters, including leaders from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and ADC within his constituency and beyond, notably a ward chairman, party secretary, and women leader.

Adding to the Labour Party’s growing influence, Comrade Tony Christopher Ochube, popularly known as Comrade 1010, has also officially joined the party.

In a letter dated March 22, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the Labour Party in Ichama Ward II, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Ochube formally announced his membership.

“I hereby write to formally notify you of my decision to join the Labour Party (LP) as a committed member of Ichama Ward II, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Benue State,” he stated.

Ochube explained that his decision followed his resignation from the ADC after consultations with his supporters and political associates.

“This decision follows my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), after careful consultation with my supporters, stakeholders, and political associates, all in pursuit of a more effective platform to serve the good people of Okpokwu Constituency,” he said.

He added that his move to the Labour Party was motivated by the party’s ideals and vision, which align with his personal commitment to good governance, grassroots development, and empowerment.

“I am pleased to identify with the ideals and vision of the Labour Party, which strongly align with my personal commitment to good governance, grassroots development, youth and women empowerment, and transparent leadership,” Ochube stated.
