Benue South Senate: I’ll be the first to be declared winner in 2027 – David Olofu
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial District seat, Dr. David Olofu, has declared that he is confident of emerging victorious in the 2027 general elections, insisting that his team would be the first to be declared winner at the polls.
Olofu made the declaration on Thursday shortly after obtaining his nomination form to contest the Benue South senatorial election under the platform of the ADC.
The senatorial hopeful also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and ensure a fair political environment for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, democracy can only thrive when all political parties are allowed to operate freely without intimidation or restrictions.
“INEC should be independent and allow opposition parties to breathe. We do not support a one-party system because freedom of association is guaranteed by the constitution,” he stated.
He noted that his decision to contest on the platform of the ADC was driven by his belief in inclusive politics and people-oriented leadership.
Speaking further, Olofu expressed optimism about his chances in the race, pointing out that his team was the first to obtain the party’s nomination form for the Benue South contest.
“By the grace of God, today, 05/07/2026, we have picked the form to contest the Benue South Senatorial District election. We are the first to pick the form, and by 2027, we shall also be the first to be declared winners,” he said.
On his agenda for the district, the ADC aspirant promised to champion inclusive representation that reflects the aspirations of the people.
He disclosed plans to establish the “Benue South People’s Assembly” and the “Benue South People’s Council” as platforms that would allow constituents participate directly in shaping policy direction and legislative priorities.
Olofu also emphasized the need for collective action in tackling insecurity across the district and the country at large.
He advocated strengthening conventional security structures while establishing a functional command and control centre within the senatorial district to improve intelligence gathering and rapid response.
According to him, insecurity can only be effectively addressed through collaboration among communities, local governments, security agencies and residents.
The ADC aspirant further stressed the importance of technology-driven security solutions, noting that modern security threats require modern approaches.
“We must embrace technology in the fight against insecurity,” he added.
Olofu will battling the incumbent, Senator Abba Moro, who is eyeing third a tenure.
