BREAKING: Crisis looms in Benue APC as Tiv leaders allegedly pick Benue South senatorial candidate; Dan Onjeh kicks
Crisis is brewing in the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the alleged decision by some party stakeholders from the Tiv-speaking area to influence the choice of the party’s senatorial candidate for Benue South ahead of the forthcoming election.
The ruling party is expected to elect its flagbearer to challenge the incumbent senator, Abba Moro, in the next general election.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that about six aspirants have indicated interest in the Benue South senatorial race.
They include Daniel Onjeh, Francis Ottah Agbo, Oloche Agidani, Nelson Alapa, Joe Ojobo and Patrick Ojechema Idoko.
However, during a meeting in Makurdi, a former deputy governor reportedly insisted on Joe Ojobo as the preferred candidate but was overruled by Moses Ternenge and others, who argued that Ottah should be given the ticket.
The development reportedly led to a heated argument, forcing one of the aspirants, Daniel Onjeh, to storm out of the meeting.
Onjeh later disclosed that he met with the governor over the development.
In a statement shared afterwards, Onjeh wrote: “Relax, Benue South. I just left the Governor, and he vowed on his integrity that he never sent Moses Ternenge to endorse any candidate.”
According to a reliable source, Ottah was allegedly picked as the strongest candidate to challenge Senator Abba Moro.
However, some members of the party are said to be unhappy with the development, insisting that “strangers should not determine who becomes the next senator in Benue South.”
More details later.
