The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Ambassador Melvin James Ejeh, has been commended by residents for his swift response and proactive approach to tackling insecurity in the area.

In a statement issued by concerned citizens of Agatu LGA, the council chairman was praised for personally leading security patrols across vulnerable communities following reports of possible attacks by armed herders.

According to the statement, panic spread across parts of the local government after rumours emerged that armed herders had allegedly crossed into some communities with plans to launch attacks.

However, the statement noted that the chairman quickly mobilised security personnel and embarked on patrols across several communities to reassure residents and deter any possible invasion.

“He did not just send directives from the council secretariat. He mobilised security personnel and went on patrol with them, moving across the nooks and crannies of Agatu Local Government Area,” the statement read.

The citizens described Ejeh as a leader who prioritises the safety and welfare of his people, noting that he has consistently demonstrated commitment to security matters since assuming office in 2024.

“This is something many public office holders would ordinarily not do. Most would delegate the responsibility, but Amb. Melvin James Ejeh chose to stand with security personnel on the frontline,” the statement added.

Residents further stated that the chairman’s presence during the patrols boosted public confidence and reassured communities that they had not been abandoned amid security concerns.
