The Chairman of the Idoma Union United Kingdom (IDUUK), Okpani Abel Ejegwa Okede, has condemned the recent killings in Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, calling on governments at all levels and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to end the bloodshed in Idoma land.

In a statement signed by Okpani Abel Ejegwa Okede, the IDUUK chairman, the UK-based association expressed deep sorrow over the continued loss of innocent lives in communities across Benue South, describing the recurring attacks as a humanitarian and security emergency.

The association said it was increasingly painful for Idoma people in the diaspora to witness the persistent violence that has claimed the lives of innocent residents, displaced families and left many communities living in fear.

According to the statement, the latest attack on Otukpo-Nobi underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to address the worsening security situation in the area.

IDUUK called on Governor Hyacinth Alia, members of the National Assembly from Benue State, the Benue State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to treat the crisis with the urgency it deserves.

“The time has come for decisive and coordinated action. The continuous killing of our people should no longer be regarded as a tragedy to be mourned after the act. It is a humanitarian and security emergency that demands practical and lasting solutions,” the statement read.

The association stressed that the people of Idoma land deserve to live in peace, cultivate their farms without fear and go about their daily activities under the protection of the law.

While condemning all acts of violence against innocent civilians, regardless of the perpetrators, IDUUK maintained that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to life, security and freedom of movement.

The group advocated the adoption and effective implementation of modern ranching as a sustainable solution to recurring conflicts between farmers and herders, saying properly managed ranching would reduce clashes, protect agricultural investments and promote economic development.

It also urged the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to strengthen community security, improve intelligence gathering and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are identified, arrested, prosecuted and brought to justice.

The association further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and civil society organisations to continue promoting dialogue, peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among all communities.

According to IDUUK, the era of merely expressing condolences after every attack should give way to concrete measures that prevent future tragedies.

The association reaffirmed that Idoma people both at home and in the diaspora remain united in their desire for peace, security and development, urging all responsible authorities to rise above politics and work collectively to restore safety and confidence across Idoma land.

It prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and for God to comfort their families while granting lasting peace to Idoma land and Benue State.
