Idoma USA Convention to focus on insecurity, Benue South economy

The Idoma Association USA has announced that insecurity and the economic development of Benue South will top discussions at its 30th anniversary convention scheduled to hold from July 30 to August 2, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States.

The convention, themed “Building Unity Through Accountable Leadership,” will bring together Idoma professionals, business leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders and members of the diaspora to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the Idoma nation.

Speaking ahead of the convention, the Vice President of Idoma Association USA, Dr. Prince Edwin Ochai, described the gathering as more than a celebration of the association’s three decades of existence.

He said the convention would provide an opportunity for participants to examine the security and economic challenges confronting Benue South and develop practical solutions.

“This convention is more than a celebration of our 30-year journey. It is an opportunity for us to unite, examine the security and economic challenges facing our homeland, and contribute ideas and resources that will improve the lives of our people,” he said.

The President of the association, Prince Edwin Ochai, said this year’s convention would reaffirm the commitment of the Idoma diaspora to the development of their homeland.

According to him, discussions will centre on accountable leadership, youth empowerment, economic growth and diaspora investment, with participants expected to propose strategies for addressing insecurity and stimulating development in Benue South.

“For three decades, the Idoma Association USA has remained committed to preserving our heritage and supporting development back home. This year’s convention will focus on building unity through accountable leadership while addressing insecurity, youth empowerment and economic growth,” he said.

Also speaking, the General Secretary of the association, Sylvester Onche Steno, urged Idoma sons and daughters across the United States and beyond to participate actively in the convention.

He noted that the anniversary celebration presents an opportunity to strengthen unity among members and generate ideas that will positively impact the Idoma nation.

“This gathering presents an opportunity for every Idoma son and daughter in the diaspora to contribute ideas, strengthen relationships and collectively shape the future of our homeland. We encourage members to attend and be part of this historic celebration,” Steno said.

Founded in 1996, the Idoma Association USA promotes the welfare of Idoma people in the diaspora while supporting development initiatives in Benue State. The four-day convention is expected to feature leadership sessions, investment forums, networking events and cultural activities aimed at advancing peace, unity and economic prosperity in Benue South.
