2027: Tinubu should resign, not seek re-election — Kenneth Okonkwo

ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has urged President Bola Tinubu to step down from office rather than seek another term in the 2027 general election, arguing that the administration has failed to address the country’s worsening insecurity.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, Okonkwo also alleged that recent political developments, including the now-overturned Federal High Court judgment that deregistered the ADC, were aimed at weakening the opposition ahead of the next election.

According to him, the worsening security situation across the country has eroded public confidence in the government, making it difficult for the President to justify another bid for office.

“Everything about this judgment is queued towards frustrating the opposition and trying to coronate Tinubu, according to the Minister of Aviation, and not elect him in 2027 because Tinubu, by his performance, has gone back to Bourdillon with one flight ticket by 2027,” he said.

Okonkwo cited recurring attacks in Plateau and Benue states, as well as violent crimes in other parts of the country, as evidence that the government has not done enough to protect lives and property.

He maintained that preventing insecurity should remain the government’s priority, stressing that lives lost to violence cannot be restored.

The ADC chieftain also recounted a personal experience involving one of his workers, whose mother was allegedly kidnapped in Kaduna State. He claimed the kidnappers demanded a huge ransom and broke two of the woman’s fingers after the family failed to meet their demand.

“These ones are not reported. The issue here is that Tinubu should not even allow the election to hold; he should resign and go in peace,” Okonkwo said.
