Minna miners’ deaths: Adeyanju rejects honorarium, vows to expose cover-up

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed his inclusion in the independent committee set up to investigate the deaths of alleged gold miners in Minna, Niger State.

Adeyanju disclosed this in a statement, saying he accepted the invitation to serve on the committee to ensure that the interests of the victims are adequately represented.

He said his participation would be focused on uncovering the truth and securing justice for the victims.

Adeyanju also urged the government not to provide monetary provisions, stipends or honoraria for members of the committee, describing the assignment as a national duty that should be undertaken in the spirit of sacrifice.

He said he would personally bear the cost of his accommodation, transportation and other expenses associated with his participation.

Adeyanju further pledged not to accept or tolerate any attempt to compromise the investigation or conceal wrongdoing.

He said, “If there is any attempt to shield those responsible or suppress the truth, I will expose it.”

According to him, the victims deserve justice, adding that the “Nigerian factor” must not be allowed to undermine the investigation.
