2027: Peter Obi not a threat to Tinubu — Umahi

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dismissed concerns that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, poses a threat to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.

Umahi, while acknowledging Obi as his brother and friend, said his position on greater political inclusion for the Southeast had remained consistent since his time as governor of Ebonyi State.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the minister recalled that he had previously urged people in the Southeast to support former President Muhammadu Buhari, while he backed Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential election.

He maintained that Obi was not the only candidate from the Southeast seeking the presidency, arguing that voters should consider all candidates based on their records.

Umahi also dismissed political rhetoric as insufficient, saying presidential hopefuls should instead present evidence of what they achieved in their communities while holding public office.

He added that his own record as Ebonyi governor demonstrated his position on development and political participation.
