Danger looms as flash floods on Sunday take over some part of Egbeda, Akowonjo and Ekoro Junction, forcing many residents to vacate their houses.

Emergency workers said the flood also overran part of Agege-Iju Road.

The coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, in a WhatsApp message, said there was heavy rain on Sunday.

Farinloye said that the rain started around 1.20pm and was followed by flash flooding and that it affected many buildings.

He said the flood disrupted activities in the community and some other nearby communities.

“We are using this opportunity to caution all motorists and other road users to exercise caution because the heavy wind that followed the rain felled electricity poles in Ekoro Junction, Ajisebiara-Mecca, Akowonjo and Egbeda.

“The electricity distribution company had been informed.

“The floods grounded about 25 cars, whose owners were advised to park them,” he said.

He said no life was lost, as officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) have been deployed to enhance effective traffic control.

“The flash flood overflowed the banks of the canal and entered into residential houses,” he added.
