AFCON 2021: Mohsen Sayed backs Egypt to defeat Nigeria
Sudan national team general manager, Mohsen Sayed, has backed the Pharaohs of Egypt to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Tuesday’s AFCON Group D opener.
Sudan were drawn alongside Egypt, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau at this year’s edition.
The 1970 African champions will begin their campaign against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday before taking on Nigeria and Egypt.
And ahead of today’s clash Sayed believes Egypt are favourites to come out tops over the Eagles.
“Egypt has the best player in the world (Mohamed Salah),” Sayed told Mega FM.
“On paper, the Egyptian national team is better than Nigeria and is the closest to winning, but football is full of surprises.
“I definitely hope that Egypt win.”
Sayed then spoke about their game against Guinea-Bissau, saying they’re familiar with their opponent’s style of play.
“We know the Guinea-Bissau national team very well. We met twice in the [World Cup] qualifiers a month ago. We are building a strong generation for the future and all the players will participate in their first major international tournament,” he explained.
“The draw served us well, as our match against Egypt will be the last one in the group stage.”
