AAU gets new Vice Chancellor

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Professor Eunice Omonzejie as the Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma.

The announcement, contained in a statement issued on Monday by Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilo, confirmed that the appointment takes immediate effect.

According to the statement, Omonzejie emerged from a shortlist of three candidates submitted by the university’s Governing Council.

A distinguished academic in French and Francophone African Literatures, Professor Omonzejie has built an impressive career within AAU’s Department of Modern Languages. Her scholarship covers African and Francophone literary studies, gender discourse, and cultural analysis.

She previously led the AAU chapter of the National Association of Women Academics, NAWACS, where she advanced mentorship programmes, research initiatives, and advocacy for women in higher education.

Her published works include co-edited volumes such as French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa, as well as her book Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews.

The Edo State Government described her appointment as a well-deserved recognition of her scholarship, leadership capacity, and commitment to academic excellence.

Governor Okpebholo congratulated Professor Omonzejie, urging her to bring her wealth of knowledge and experience to strengthen AAU’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates while fostering research and innovation.
