Adamawa Rerun: APC threatens to boycott supplementary election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa has threatened to boycott the supplementary governorship election if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insists on conducting the election on Thursday.
Ahmed Lawal, organising secretary of the APC, made the party’s position known in Yola, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Lawal told NAN that the party had rejected the Thursday’s date and communicated its position to the electoral body.
Following the vacation of an order restraining INEC from conducting a supplementary election in the state, the commission had fixed March 28 for the election.
The APC rejected the new date, saying INEC did not consult the party before fixing the date for the poll despite the fact that the information had filtered out earlier that the election would hold on Thursday.
He argued that many people will be disenfranchised if INEC should go on with the election.
“We are not going to participate in the election if INEC is going to conduct it on Thursday,” Lawan said.
“I don’t know why INEC is rushing, as conducting this election on Thursday will disenfranchise many voters, particularly workers and students who need to go to work and schools
