Adoka councilor hosts landmark schools quiz, rewards winners with iPads, cash, educational materials
Adoka community in Otukpo Local Government Area came alive on Wednesday as education stakeholders from across Benue State gathered at Methodist Central Primary School, Umalichi, for the grand finale of an inter-school quiz and debate competition organized by Hon. Sule Philip Onyilo, Councilor representing Adoka-Icho Ward.
In a statement signed by Comrade Joshua Otene, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Otukpo LGA, the local government hailed the success of the event and reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote education and youth development across Adoka-Icho Ward.
The event, themed “Knowledge Beyond Boundaries,” featured 13 primary schools and six secondary schools from the ward and culminated a four-week academic contest. It was chaired by the Executive Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Hon. Prince Maxwell Ogiri, with the Benue State Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Mrs. Margaret Adamu Ijaguwa, attending as Special Guest of Honour.
At the end of the competition, Adoka Community Secondary School, Adoka-Icho, emerged as the overall winner with 57 points. Methodist High School, Adoka-Icho placed second with 50 points, while Elabo Science and Technical Secondary School, Okpaflu, Adoka took third with 48 points.
In individual awards, Miss Obiaje Ene Precious was named Best Performing Student in the secondary school category, receiving an iPad valued at ₦350,000 and ₦50,000 in cash.

Musa Akpa Emmanuel was second, earning an iPad worth over ₦250,000 and ₦30,000 cash, while Danjuma Emmanuel Adakole placed third, receiving ₦20,000 and educational materials.
Winners in the primary school category also received prizes. Participating schools were further presented with whiteboards, markers, notebooks, pencils, footballs, and branded jerseys.
Representing Chairman Ogiri, Vice Chairman Hon. Evang. Enuwa Efada Soo praised Hon. Onyilo for the initiative, describing it as bold and impactful.
She commended his commitment to grassroots development and encouraged other elected officials to emulate the example.
The Commissioner for Education, represented by Pastor Sunday Ajeibi, described the competition as impressive and forward-looking, applauding the councilor for investing in academic excellence and promoting healthy competition among students.
She reaffirmed that education remains a top priority under Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration.
Hon. Onyilo thanked Chairman Ogiri for his support throughout the planning and execution of the competition.
He expressed his determination to make the quiz and debate an annual event and pledged to work closely with the local government and stakeholders to strengthen education in Adoka-Icho Ward.
Dignitaries at the event included Mrs. Esther Unande, Director of Academic Services, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); Mr. Innocent Ikyanyi, SUBEB Quiz Coordinator; Mr. Agbaja Celestine, State Debate Coach; Mr. Ejiga Basil, SUBEB Zonal Coordinator for Otukpo Zone; Hon. Okoh Owoicho, LGC Supervisor for Education, Youth and Sports; Hon. Sule Owoicho, Supervisor for Finance; and Education Secretary, Comrade Ameh Anthony, among others.
