AFCON 2025: Osimhen threatens to quit Super Eagles after clash with Lookman
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen reportedly threatened to walk away from the national team and head back to Turkey following an on-field dispute at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Arise News reports that the striker was visibly upset after a heated exchange with Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday.
Despite netting two goals from assists provided by Lookman, the 27-year-old expressed frustration when his teammate failed to pass to him in the 64th minute, prompting an angry reaction.
Osimhen subsequently signalled to the bench to be substituted and was later withdrawn for Moses Simon.
After the final whistle, the Napoli star reportedly stormed out of the stadium, dropped his accreditation card, and declared that he was “done” with the Super Eagles, insisting on returning to Turkey.
Senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) later intervened and managed to calm the striker down.
