AMAC election: Moses Paul raises alarm over threats to ADC agents

The chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Moses Paul, has alleged intimidation of party agents and blamed movement restrictions for the low voter turnout recorded in parts of the council during Saturday’s election.

Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit, Paul said participation across several communities fell below expectations, attributing the situation to confusion created by the restriction of movement directive.

According to him, residents appeared uncertain about the enforcement of the order, a development he described as unprecedented in his decades of living within the council.

“I have lived in AMAC for about 40 years and I have never witnessed anything like this. It feels like a state of emergency over what should ordinarily be a peaceful democratic exercise,” he said.

Despite his concerns, the ADC candidate commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at his polling unit for maintaining professionalism and following due electoral procedures.

Paul further alleged that ADC agents in Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa Ward, including Dogongada and Shereti, were threatened and intimidated during the exercise.

He also condemned vote-buying, describing it as a criminal act, and claimed that such practices were occurring in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
