APC attacks Adeleke family for donating N1bn to Church

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has sharply criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke and his siblings for their recent donation of N1 billion to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos.

The party expressed concern over the timing and implications of such a large donation while the state is reportedly facing financial difficulties.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC condemned the donation, which was announced by Dr. Deji Adeleke on Sunday in remembrance of the late matriarch of the Adeleke family, Esther Adeleke, a prominent member of the church during her lifetime.

The donation has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the appropriateness of the gesture.

Lawal argued that the donation, made while Adeleke serves as the chief executive of Osun State, raises suspicions that the funds may have come from the state’s treasury.

Lawal emphasized that while the APC does not oppose support for religious institutions, such actions should be conducted with decency and transparency.

He further questioned why the Adeleke family chose this particular time, during Governor Adeleke’s tenure, to make such a substantial donation to their late mother’s church.

The APC chairman suggested that the donation reflects either a lack of credible advice to Governor Adeleke or his refusal to listen to his numerous advisers.

He noted that Governor Adeleke currently holds the record for the highest number of Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants in Nigeria.

“It wouldn’t be an overstatement to suggest that the scarce resources of Osun State may have been used for this mega donation in Lagos,” Lawal stated.

He stressed that while charity is commendable, it should not come at the expense of morality and decency, especially when the state’s finances are under strain.

Lawal also criticized Governor Adeleke’s public behavior, particularly his actions at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, contrasting them with his responsibilities as the state’s leader.

He pointed out that the governor has yet to provide a convincing explanation regarding the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for government workers in Osun State, as approved by the Federal Government.
