The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not rely on defections to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout on Monday, Kalu said President Bola Tinubu and APC candidates would perform well in the South-East based on their achievements and growing grassroots support.

“We are not relying on defections to win; we are relying on hard work and commitment. Politics is about results, not noise,” Kalu said.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s reform agenda, describing it as painful but necessary for long-term national growth.

“Reforms come with challenges, but the gains will outweigh the pains. I have sponsored a bill on social welfare and investment to reduce poverty, and I will meet the President to fast-track it,” he added.

The former Abia governor also cited ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the South-East, including road rehabilitation works linking Enugu, Lokpanta, Aba, Port Harcourt, Bende, and Arochukwu.

Kalu, who joined the APC in 2016, said the party had grown significantly in the region.

“When I joined the APC, there was no governor or lawmaker from the South-East. Today, the story has changed, we now have governors, senators, and House members across the zone,” he stated.

On the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Kalu urged Nigerians to respect the judicial process.

“Kanu’s case is before a competent court. Justice Omotosho is handling the matter, and we should allow the judiciary to do its work,” he said.
