‘Avoid Niger Delta’ – Asari-Dokubo warns protest organizers
Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, a former Niger Delta freedom fighter, has issued a firm warning to those planning a nationwide protest against economic hardship: do not bring it to the Niger Delta.
Speaking at the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference for Ethnic Nationalities, Youths, and Women in Port Harcourt, Asari-Dokubo criticized the protest’s organizers, accusing them of having motives that clash with the genuine concerns of the Niger Delta people. The conference, themed “Come Let Us Build Together,” was held to discuss regional development and unity.
Asari-Dokubo expressed doubts about the true intentions of the protest leaders, alleging they were primarily interested in the Niger Delta’s resources. He warned that their actions would be met with resistance from the region’s stakeholders.
“I, along with those who share my views and those committed to the Niger Delta’s interests, will not participate in this protest. It’s as straightforward as that,” he stated.
He emphasized, “If anyone has the right to protest, I also have the right to oppose it. Where your right ends, mine begins.”
Asari-Dokubo also noted past instances where protests were led against leaders from the region and remarked, “When our brother was in power, there were protests. Now, with another of our brothers in position, they want to protest again. That’s the reality.”
