Inter Miami’s iconic superstar, Lionel Messi, has clinched his eighth Ballon d’Or, setting a new record in the prestigious award’s history.

Messi’s remarkable achievement was announced earlier today, solidifying his place at the pinnacle of the football world. The Argentine maestro managed to outshine other formidable contenders, including Erling Haaland from Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe representing PSG.

This victory marks Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or win, with previous accolades earned in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2021. The 36-year-old’s latest triumph can be largely attributed to his outstanding performances with the Argentine national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, culminating in a thrilling victory over France in the tournament’s final.

Erling Haaland, who showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 52 goals in the previous season, contributing significantly to Manchester City’s treble win in the 2022/2023 campaign, secured the second spot in the Ballon d’Or voting. Additionally, Haaland was recognized with the Gerd Muller Trophy, awarded to the best striker of the year.

Emiliano Martinez, a teammate of Messi in the Argentine national team, was honored with the Yashin Trophy, highlighting his excellence as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Jude Bellingham, the young talent from Real Madrid, was celebrated with the Kopa Trophy, signifying him as the world’s top U-21 footballer.
