Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his relationship with Lionel Messi, revealing that he sometimes translated English conversations for the Argentine during award ceremonies.

The Portuguese forward said he and Messi shared award stages for 15 years. He added that they maintained a good relationship despite their fierce rivalry on the pitch.

“We shared the award stages for 15 years, and we always got along very well,” Ronaldo said.

He recalled helping Messi understand conversations in English during some ceremonies.

“I remember translating what people were saying in English for him. It was funny,” he said.

Ronaldo also praised Messi for treating him with respect throughout their rivalry. He explained that their competition never affected their relationship off the pitch.

“He always treated me well. We each defended our clubs and national teams, but we still got along,” Ronaldo said.

The two football icons dominated world football for more than a decade. Ronaldo starred for Real Madrid, while Messi played for Barcelona during much of their rivalry.

They competed for major individual honours, including the Ballon d’Or, and set numerous records in football.

Ronaldo described their rivalry as healthy. He said their competition encouraged both players to keep improving.

“I believe we motivated each other to become better players,” he said.
