Bandits attack Zamfara LG headquarters, kill one and, abduct seven
In the early hours of Monday, armed bandits launched an attack on the headquarters of Bungudu local government area in Zamfara State, resulting in the death of one person and the abduction of seven others.
This incident follows a previous attack on the Bungudu Police Division just last week Monday, during which a police officer lost their life.
Ishaq Bungudu, a resident of Bungudu town, recounted that the armed bandits entered the town with lethal weapons, firing shots indiscriminately and causing the death of one individual. Among those abducted were Abdulrahman Hassan, the son of the Emir of Bungudu, and Abubakar S/Fada Bungudu, a former State Programme Officer of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The relentless attacks on the local government headquarters by these armed bandits are causing distress, especially considering the area’s proximity to the state capital, Gusau. Ishaq expressed frustration at the lack of official response from the government and urged Governor Dauda Lawal to urgently address the escalating insecurity.
The proximity of Bungudu Local Government headquarters to the state capital highlights the urgency of the situation. Similar attacks have occurred in recent months, resulting in the deaths of law enforcement personnel and civilians alike.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, have been unsuccessful as multiple phone calls to him have gone unanswered.
