A woman named Favour Nweke has been arrested and paraded by the Rivers State Police Command for pouring hot groundnut oil on her husband, Ekelediri Nwokekoro, during an altercation. The incident occurred in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area of the State.
During her parade at the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, the suspect confessed to the heinous crime. Nweke stated that her husband’s recent strange behavior was linked to a crime he had committed with his friends.
The altercation began when she confronted her husband about his behavior and alleged involvement in a crime. Nweke revealed, “He will go out at about 2 o’clock in the night and will come back early in the morning. Sometimes he would go, and stay two or three days before coming back.”
She further explained that a friend had informed her about her husband’s involvement in an illegal act. Allegedly, her husband and others had defrauded an individual of N20 million by promising them a contract in Etche. This revelation sparked the argument that led to the tragic event.
In a heated moment, her husband hit her, prompting her to retaliate by grabbing hot oil from the kitchen and pouring it on him. The act caused severe harm to her husband.
Although denying allegations of extramarital affairs, Nweke pleaded for forgiveness, expressing remorse for her actions and stating that she did not anticipate such severe consequences.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted and held accountable for her actions. He emphasized that anyone taking the law into their hands would face appropriate sanctions.
