Popular Yoruba actress Omoshalewa Yusuf, popularly known as Basira Beere, has opened up about the collapse of her marriage, alleging that she suffered years of domestic abuse at the hands of her ex-husband.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Talk to B podcast, the actress claimed she endured repeated physical assaults and revealed that she lost four pregnancies as a result of the violence.

Recounting her ordeal, Basira Beere said she ignored warnings from friends before the marriage and stayed in the relationship for years because her parents constantly advised her to be patient.

“When I was about to marry him, some of my friends complained that he was beneath my status, but I defended him because I also came from nothing before fame. I sponsored about 70 per cent of our wedding because I believed I was supporting my man,” she said.

According to her, the abuse began shortly after their wedding over what she described as a minor issue involving a congratulatory text message from another man.

“Just days after the wedding, someone texted to congratulate me and I replied by calling him ‘dear.’ That was when the problems started. He beat me severely, and even our landlord had to step in,” she added.

The actress further alleged that despite informing her parents about the situation, they repeatedly urged her to endure the marriage.

“If I told my parents what was happening, they would ask me to be patient. Only my siblings who lived with me truly knew what I went through. He beat me over little things until I lost about four pregnancies. During our last fight, I was covered in blood. Gistlover even posted about it, though I still don’t know who leaked it,” she said.
