Police arrest 33-year-old woman over alleged killing of co-wife in Bauchi

Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, following the alleged killing of her 43-year-old co-wife, Jamila Adamu, in Bauchi metropolis.

The incident happened on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate. Police said the women had a domestic dispute before the attack.

Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said preliminary investigations showed that Haruna, the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle during the dispute.

She allegedly struck Adamu on the forehead with the pestle. The victim then collapsed and lost consciousness.

Police detectives from C-Division responded after receiving information about the incident. They examined the scene before taking Adamu to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.

A doctor at the hospital later confirmed Adamu’s death. Police moved her remains to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police arrested Haruna in connection with the incident. Officers also recovered the pestle allegedly used in the attack as an exhibit.

The Command said the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations. It added that investigators would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

The department will conduct further investigations and pursue prosecution where necessary.

Aliyu condoled with the deceased’s family. He also urged residents to seek medical and psychosocial support for relatives facing mental health challenges.

The Command advised residents to report domestic violence cases to the appropriate authorities without delay.
