Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, academic group known as Committee of Mature Minds, on Saturday, honoured the Distinguished Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro .

The honour was at the celebration and hosting of members who bagged Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D). The group is made up of senior members of the academia of the institution.

Senator Moro while speaking at the occasion, said each time there was an event at the polytechnic that requires his presence, he doesn’t hesitate to attend, because the polythechnic environment always brings back memories of the good old days at the institution.

He maintained that all those in the polytechnic with him in the past could attest to the fact that he is still the same person in size and content, that being a senator today is the kindness of God.

He commended his contemporaries who got their Doctor Degree in Philosophy, acknowledging that the value of what they were celebrating was better appreciated against the backdrop of the fact that they are working.

In his words, “I am a student of Doctorate Degree and I know what is involved. That these people have gotten this extral degree to impact knowledge to our younger generation and for progress of the society is worthy of appreciation.”

The Senator was however disappointed that among the celebrants who got their Ph.D, there was no woman. He threw the challenge to the women folks who have always agitated for 35 percent affirmative action to wake up and work towards attaining whatever level they want to attain in life.

“How do you aspire to attain the affirmative action?” he queried? “Tell the women folks that what a man can do, a woman can do it even better.”

He challenge the academia to rise up to the occasion of building an egalitarian society of their dream. “For me, each time I think of BenPoly and what I have taught before, I am guided. Each time I drift away, I remind myself what I used to teach at the polytechnic.

“I am not a student of ‘If you cannot beat them, join them’. If you cannot beat them, keep trying until you can beat them. There’s no way darkness can have power over light and what is good is good”, he added.

The Comrade thanked the students and staff of the Polytechnic for the support and honour given to him and promised to keep supporting the school for the general good of the people.

Earlier, the Senator attended the wedding reception of Susan and Samuel which held at St Jude Catholic Church, Zone HB, Otukpo. He congratulated the couple and prayed God to keep their marriage.
